So, I was watching a documentary about the recent landing of Curiosity on Mars, and the people on it were discussing how, within the next 20 years, we’re going to have people flying up to Mars. They’re already building simulation habitats on earth that serve as a replica of the ones that could possibly be used to house humans on said planet. The replicas are made out of glass and steel, which are used to “cage in” the habitat. There are plants and recyclable water in the habitat and humans will feed the plants with the carbon dioxide that we exhale, while the plants give us the oxygen we need to inhale. The architecture of this replica looked astounding. I’m pretty sure, however, that people will have to solely adapt to a plant based vegan diet while living in these habitats, which will be easy for someone like myself who is already a vegan, yet a bit challenging for future astronauts, physicists, and astrophysicists who will be flown up to live, explore, and study Mars. I am excited that, due to the field of study and life path that I chose for myself, I might have an opportunity to go out into space and to be one of the first people to step off onto Mars. A planet billions of miles away. It’s events such as these which really re-light the spark in my brain that drives me forward to my number one goal in my life, which is to be a scientist with a PhD. I am very impressed that this landing happened, excited about the future findings that Curiosity might make on Mars, and that there is a possibility, even though it’s a fairly slight one, that I might be one of the future scientists chosen to live on Mars to study it. Who knows? Maybe we will be able to turn Mars into a second earth, which will benefit our species greatly as our population continues to inflate immensely, while our natural resources are running dry, and the food, water, and air we need to survive continues to get ridiculously polluted. Anyways, this has been a random look into the mind of (future) Dr. Jamie. haha
